All About Me activities are a back-to-school classic for good reason. They help teachers get to know students quickly, give children a chance to share what matters to them, and help classmates discover what they have in common.
What to include
- Name, age and birthday
- The people they live with, and pets
- Favorite foods, colors, books and games
- Something they’re good at, and something they want to learn
- A self-portrait
Make it inclusive
- Offer choices so students share only what they’re comfortable sharing.
- Remember that families look different. Open prompts like “the people I live with” work for everyone.
- Allow drawings or dictated answers for younger students.
Ways to share
- Partner interviews: Students ask each other questions and introduce their partner to the class.
- Gallery walk: Display the pages and ask students to find something they have in common with a classmate.
- Class book: Bind the pages into a book for the classroom library.
Use what you learn
Student info sheets are useful all year. Note interests to choose read-alouds and examples, keep birthdays for celebrations, and look back at “what I want to learn” when setting goals.
Revisit at the end of the year
Save the pages and repeat the activity in spring. Students love comparing their answers and seeing how much they’ve grown.
