How to use ten frame worksheets

A ten frame shows numbers as groups of five and ten, so children learn to see "7" as "5 and 2 more" without counting every dot. Dots always fill the top row first, left to right, the way most math programs teach.

  • Count and write: children count the dots and write how many in the box.
  • Fill the frame: children read the number and draw that many dots.
  • 11 to 20: two ten frames — one full ten and some more — to build teen numbers.

Print a few different sets for math centers, morning work or homework, and keep the answer keys for checking.
